A Hilarious Wild West Adventure with a Quizzical Twist

About the Film

The Good, The Bad, and The Dodo is a comedic short film created as the opening feature for the 2021 BBQ Quiz, held in celebration of my 30th birthday. Set in a Wild West-themed world, this mini-epic follows the story of Sheriff Shane as he returns to the town of Filby to uncover a dastardly crime: the coveted BBQ Quiz Trophy has been stolen by the notorious villain, “The Dodo.” Determined to restore order, Sheriff Shane assembles a team of brave quizzers to take on The Dodo and reclaim the prized trophy.

This film blends humour, puns, and playful Western tropes, offering a light-hearted and unforgettable cinematic experience.

THE MOVIE

Behind the Scenes

The Good, The Bad, and The Dodo was an ambitious project brought to life through innovative filmmaking techniques:

  • Filmed on Greenscreen: Most of the scenes were shot in front of a greenscreen, with actors performing against an imagined backdrop.

  • Rotoscoping in the Indoor Arena: Certain scenes were meticulously rotoscoped to integrate live-action footage with digital environments.

  • Western Town Assets in Unreal Engine: The vibrant and dynamic Wild West setting was built using Unreal Engine, showcasing a beautifully designed model of a Western desert town created by KK Design.

  • Visual Effects by Shane McAndrew: From assembling the digital environments to crafting seamless transitions, the visual effects elevated the film’s immersive quality.
